NPA Fieldschool 2009

Dilston Castle, Northumberland

The 2009 Archaeological Fieldschool run by NPA and North Pennines Heritage Trust Education Service is due to commence on the 1st June, running through to the 2nd August 2009. 2009's Field School will continue to investigate the Jacobean Hall and Service Range at Dilston Castle (continued from 2007 and 2008 seasons), Northumberland.

The project aims to provide archaeology students, and prospective entrants into archaeology courses at university, the opportunity to gain valuable fieldwork experience by participating in the project; skills available to be taught are:

  • Topographical Surveying Techniques
  • Excavation Techniques
  • Archaeological Planning Techniques
  • Environmental and Finds Processing Techniques
  • Building Recording Techniques
  • Computer Aided Drawing (Digitising)
  • Geophysical Surveying Techniques

NPA For Education

One of North Pennines Archaeology's roles is to promote archaeology and its practice in the form of education. NPA is a wholly owned company of North Pennines Heritage Trust, which runs its own education department, North Pennines Heritage Trust Education Service. The Service caters for an extensive range of subjects and key stages aiming to help teachers and educators deliver the National Curriculum through a creative and cultural educational approach. NPA also run an archaeological summer/field school, teaching practical archaeology to students from around the world.

NPA Community Projects

Brackenber Moor Community projectNPA run an active policy on becoming involved with general community projects, bringing archaeological understanding to many who would normally have to rely on what they see on TV.
