Joanne graduated in 2002 with an Honours Degree in Archaeology and History from Cumbria Institute of the Arts where she was co-founder and president of the archaeological society in 1999-2000. While studying at Cumbria Institute Joanne also volunteered for 2 seasons at Vindolanda excavating a roman bath-house (2000) and a cobbler’s workshop (2001). In the final year of college Joanne volunteered at Cumbria Archives in Carlisle both at Carlisle castle and Ashley Street Conservation Unit.

Joanne first got involved with North Pennines in 2003 on the Scotch Street excavations both on site and post-ex and has been a finds officer since then. Joanne has on and off spent almost two years supervising a watching brief at Cockshaw Burn in Hexham for the Environment Agency. Joanne has also been involved with other major excavations such as Derventio House at Papcastle, Malster’s Arms in Carlisle, Harraby Green Mill in Carlisle and Dearham Pottery as well as other evaluations and watching briefs. Joanne is now both a project supervisor for North Pennines and Finds Officer.
