Frank has been in charge of the company since 2002, and maintains his role as Director of the company, and also Principal Archaeologist for the North Pennines Heritage Trust, providing in-house expertise with the Trust's historic building conservation team. The commercial work involves tendering for a variety of archaeological projects throughout the North of England and Southern Scotland, working within the framework of PPG 16.
As the director of the company, Frank is responsible for the preparation of desktop assessments, project designs, and the final production of all client and archive reports, along with the submission of Scheduled Monument Consent applications to English Heritage for work at the Nenthead Mines. His work often involves liasing with county and district planning authorities, DCMS, English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The scope of projects under his overall control ranges from small rural desktop studies to large excavations and building surveys, often carried out on Scheduled Ancient Monuments. Projects include: the completion of a three year excavation and building recording programme at Nenthead Smelt Mill; a major conservation project of the 15th century castle and associated chapel at Dilston Castle, with all structures surveyed up to Level 3 standard; and major urban excavations in Carlisle, including the Maltsters, Scotch Street and King Street sites.
Prior to taking up his current position, Frank worked five years for Carlisle Archaeological Unit, later Carlisle Archaeology Ltd. He has over fifteen years professional archaeological experience. |
