Helen graduated from the University of Durham with a 2:1 Honours degree in prehistoric Archaeology, in July 2006.
Prior to this she worked as a volunteer at Flag Fen during the 2003 and 2005 excavation seasons. Here she excavated Bronze Age wooden timbers, which formed part of a Bronze Age walkway that connected Flag Fen to the surrounding areas.
In May 2006, she started working in Ireland, for ACS Ltd on the M3 road improvement scheme, just outside Navan in Co.Meath. Here she excavated on a multi-phased enclosure settlement, which included a Bronze Age Roundhouse, an Early Christian ditch system, and a Medieval Fullacht Fiàdh (burnt mound).
In 2007 she worked in Wales on part of a Gas pipeline, and from here worked in Oxfordshire for John Moore Heritage Services, which she joined in June 2007 as a site assistant. In September 2007, she became a supervisor, and was involved in evaluations, watching briefs, and small scale excavations, including the excavation of a Roman settlement site that had evidence of two stone built wells, a small housestead, and evidence for Anglo Saxon Grubenhausen. She also had experience with finds processing, excavation of human remains, and producing reports for some of the small scale evaluations she was involved with.
In February 2008 she returned to Ireland for 3 months to work for ACS Ltd on the N3, Butler’s Bridge to Belturbet road improvement scheme. Here she excavated another Fullacht Fiàdh as well as a Bronze Age ring barrow, which included cremation pits, and evidence for Iron Age settlement.
Helen joined NPA Ltd in June 2008 as a supervisor and undertakes archaeological field evaluations and watching briefs; she also produces site reports.
